Our # 1 New Year’s Resolution for 2016? Create Home, Sweet Home for Neglected and Abused Kids in The Bahamas.

It’s said that people who make resolutions are 10 times more likely to achieve their goals than others. We like those odds! You’re invited to set an intention to create a safe, happy and healthy home for kids this holiday season: support the Zion Children’s Home with a donation.

Tameka’s Story

Tameka* and her brother were some of the first youngsters to come live at the Zion Children’s Home. They were placed with us because their parents wouldn’t take care of them. The children were left at the house by themselves, frequently without any food to eat. When there was a meal, it was usually just noodles. The parents seemed pleased when their children were removed because it gave them a life without responsibilities.

When Tameka walked into the Zion Home for the first time, she smiled and exclaimed, “Home, sweet home!” She and her brother had come to a place with kind and attentive caregivers and a safe, clean bed to sleep. Instead of neglect and malnutrition, they now enjoy healthy and tasty meals, caring adults, interesting outings and play time fun in a big yard.

Even though Tameka and her brother never get phone calls or visits from their parents, they have a happy and healthy life at the Zion Children’s Home. They face a future of possibilities and joy thanks to the loving community that cares for them.

Sadly, there are hundreds of children in The Bahamas like Tameka and her brother who are waiting for placement. Because there so few foster homes in the country–and most of those are already filled–kids who are experiencing daily abuse and neglect remain in these desperate conditions.

Help us continue our work and make 2016 a year of possibilities and joy for these kids.

“All I want is to one day walk down the street in Nassau and have these kids come up and tell me how they’re doing, how successful their lives are, that they are happy and well.” -Zion Children’s Home house mother Alicia Munroe.
